Guerre civile au Liberia
September 1990, Monrovia, Liberia --- Liberian president Samuel Doe is tortured at the hands of the militant group Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia (INPFL). Responding to years of government corruption and oppression, in 1989 the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) launched a revolt against President Doe, seizing control of much of Liberia and plunging the country into massive civil war. During the war Prince Yormie Johnson split from the NPFL and formed the INPFL; then he and his forces captured, tortured, and executed President Doe, recording the gruesome deed on video tape. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
