AFL Defend Schieffelin Front During the Civil War in Liberia
09 Nov 1992, Schieffelin, Liberia --- AFL forces under pressure from Ghanaian ECOMOG forces defend the Schieffelin front, 15 kilometers from Monrovia, during the Liberian Civil War. The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) is the national army under the Samuel Doe regime. By 1992, the AFL maintained only limited authority after most of its equipment had been damaged or destroyed during the Liberian Civil War. Other factions in conflict with the AFL include the peacekeeping force (ECOMOG) from the Economic Community of West African States and the NPFL (National Patriotic Front of Liberia) rebels led by Charles Taylor. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
