Bones at Monrovia Airport During Civil War in Liberia
09 Oct 1990, Monrovia, Liberia --- The bones of a war victim lie on the ground of Monrovia's Spriggs Payne Airport. Responding to years of government corruption and oppression, in 1989 the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) launched a revolt against President Samuel Doe, seizing control of much of Liberia and plunging the country into a massive civil war in which hundreds of thousands were killed. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
