Bones at Monrovia Airport During Civil War in Liberia
09 Oct 1990, Monrovia, Liberia --- The bones of war victims lie on the ground of Monrovia's Spriggs Payne Airport. Responding to years of government corruption and oppression, in 1989 the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) launched a revolt against President Samuel Doe, seizing control of much of Liberia and plunging the country into a massive civil war in which hundreds of thousands were killed. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
