Civil War in Liberia

In late 1993, the Liberia Peace Council (LPC), a largely Krahn offshoot of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), challenged the then dominant National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) and gained significant control over the southeast of the country. While both are responsible for severe human rights abuses, the LPC stepped up its campaign against civilians, especially those it considers members of the NPFL.
