Civil War in Liberia
22 Aug 1994, Padhore Davis, Liberia --- An armed child fighter with the LPC, a pro-government militia group, poses with a gun and red beret at a military training facility during the Liberian Civil War. In late 1993, the Liberia Peace Council (LPC), a largely Krahn offshoot of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), challenged the then dominant National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) and gained significant control over the southeast of the country. While both are responsible for severe human rights abuses, the LPC stepped up its campaign against civilians, especially those it considers members of the NPFL. The LPC, like many other factions was accused of abusing civilians through practices such as robbery, beatings, killings, and forced labor. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
