Civil War in Liberia
09 Aug 1990, Congo Town, Liberia --- As forces from the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) head to the Liberian capital, refugees fleeing their homes in Congo Town pass by the corpse of a man killed in the conflict. Responding to years of government corruption and oppression, in 1989 the NPFL launched a revolt against President Samuel Doe, seizing control of much of Liberia and plunging the country into massive civil war until 1996. --- Image by © Patrick Robert/Sygma/Corbis
